Aftercare:  Step-by-Step

Introduction

Establishing an aftercare program at your funeral home tells your families and your community that you are committed to ensuring the highest quality of service.  When it is an integral part of your normal services, it speaks volumes about your firm's interest, caring, and commitment.

Each funeral home's aftercare program will be different.  Services will vary depending on the resources that are available and what your community needs.  However, there are some basic aftercare features that should be provided in any program.  Beyond that, the sky is the limit.

Aftercare is the service you provide to families after the funeral.  These services make a clear statement: your concern about every family that comes through your doors doesn't end when the funeral does.

Creating an aftercare program is easy.  But it should be developed in steps to ensure that you have looked at the pitfalls as well as the potential.  Fit your aftercare program to the particular needs and resources of your funeral home and your community.

Points to Remember

Aftercare is a commitment to provide bereavement services that do not end with the funeral.

Every aftercare program will be different.

Your aftercare program should fit the particular needs of your community.
